Jillian Simmons “JJ on the Mic” was a radio personality on Indianapolis (WHHH-FM), and Houston (KBXX-FM), but she hung up her mic in January of 2017 to pursue her life’s passion. Jillian devotes the majority of her time to sowing into the lives of young girls in her I’m Me foundation. She is also is the author of Without Bruises that discusses her journey through a relationship with a sociopath. In this book, she sheds light on the often missed signs of emotional and mental abuse.
In Jillian’s book “Without Bruises” she shares her journey through a relationship with a sociopath and sheds light on the often missed signs of emotional and mental abuse. She described abusive relationships as being as strong as addictions for people because of the manipulation, but she states that “You can get out!” Jillian is going to be discussing her book and signing it at her event on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at 1-4 in Northern Virginia, Pentagon City Fashion Center. There will be free refreshments, Giveaways, and 25% off between 1-4. JJ is not from this area so everyone in the DMV area let’s go out and support her on October 15th!
Jillian spoke about how she made her dreams come true through faith and being persistent. She said she always wanted to be on the radio and felt like the radio personalities that listened to were her “friends” and always there for her. She liked the thought of being on the radio and available for the listeners so when she was 16 she worked at her high school’s radio station. She took a risk even though it was a rock station she learned about the industry. She went from there to a local radio station in Dayton, Ohio and interned and worked there through college. She has been on the radio for 24 years in Indianapolis (WHHH-FM), and Houston (KBXX-FM). She even took a risk and went to New York City where her persistence paid off again when after 3 months of calling the station manager she was hired part-time for a radio show then went onto to work full time until 9/11 happened and she left the area. Jillian spoke on how important it is to network in her industry because it is not always what you know but who you know.
